Business Insider – Memphis restaurants will be getting more than one million new jobs, thanks to a new deal between the city and its biggest employers.
The city’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and the Greater Memphis Partnership (GMP) announced Wednesday that it will add 1,500 jobs at the three new restaurants, which are opening in the city this summer.
The businesses include The Black Cat and The Pecan Factory, two of the city’s best-known eateries.
The restaurants have a total of about 1,400 employees.EDC Chief Executive Mark Jurek said in a news release that the new jobs will help Memphis grow its restaurants.
“Memphis has been a regional culinary hub for more than a century,” he said.
“These jobs will give our employees a taste of the region and provide jobs in their hometown.”
The new restaurants are part of the City’s Downtown Development Plan.
It will provide more than $100 million in federal stimulus funding for infrastructure improvements in the Memphis area.
