The first time you order at a Mexican restaurant in the United States is a bit like going to a dentist for a checkup.
You get a letter confirming your diagnosis and a prescription for a dentist’s scalpel, a procedure that is a necessity for a Mexican-American dentist.
You also get a plate of salsa, a bowl of rice and a cup of beans, the perfect meal to celebrate your victory at the dentist.
What is that all about?
The answer is simple: you will not feel as guilty as you might if you ordered in America.
What are the things you need to know about Mexico?

Miguel Vidal, who manages the restaurant and restaurant review site Eat24, says there are two types of restaurants in Mexican cuisine: the authentic ones and the trendy ones.
“In the latter category, you’re looking at Michelin stars, but the Michelin star is a symbolic thing,” he says.
“If you look at the food, it’s a bit of a joke, because they don’t actually use those stars.
You go to the restaurant, you have a nice meal and you leave.
But if you look, you go to a Michelin five star restaurant, that’s the pinnacle of what Mexican cuisine is.”
If you’re coming to Mexico to eat in restaurants, you’ll probably want to check out one of the other major cities, as well as some of the lesser-known ones, like Chihuahua.
